Obituaries: Arthur Albert Wimer

ILWACO – Ocean Park resident Arthur A. Wimer, 84, died Sept. 28, 2006, in Ilwaco. The son of Frank and Ethel (Queen) Wimer, he was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Leoti, Kan. He grew up in Leoti and nearby Colby, Kan., and at age 17 was drafted into the U.S. Army.
Mr. Wimer served four and a half years in the Army during World War II, seeing action in the Pacific Theatre at New Guinea and The Philippines. Following his military service he initially settled in Centralia. He returned to Kansas for several years before moving to Longview where he worked for more than 25 years as a back tender at the Weyerhaeuser Pulp Mill until retirement.
In 1975 he moved to Ocean Park. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and took pride in his yard. According to him, his retirement years at the beach were “the good times.” He was a former member of the Christian Church of Longview, Long Beach Elks No. 1937, Cowlitz Valley Moose Lodge, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He and Louise Arnold were married March 6, 1943. She died in August 2003. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law Mary and Harvey Best of Richland; his sisters Josephine Colon of Redlands, Calif., and Alice Luckinbill of Indiana; granddaughter Jill Selzler and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
