Irving F. Weisenborn

LONG BEACH – Irving F. Weisenborn, 93, of Ocean Park died May 30, 2006, in Long Beach. He was born Nov. 8, 1912, to Leonard W. and Lydia (Romberg) Weisenborn in Portland, Ore. He was raised in the Portland area and attended school there.

In 1945 he moved to Hockinson. There, along with his brother Bill, he owned and operated the Baker Creek Lumber Company, his specialty being heavy equipment mechanics. In 1965 he went to work for the Morrison-Knutsen Corporation in Vietnam, where he stayed until 1972. He then went to Africa for a brief period before returning to Washington. He re-opened the shop in Hockinson and ran it until 1989, at which time he semi-retired to the beach. He continued his love of all things mechanical, especially enjoying tinkering and help neighbors.

On Nov. 30, 1935, he married Virginia DuNann. This past fall they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. He loved model trains and was an avid crossword puzzle solver.

His wife Virginia; sons, George Weisenborn of Amboy and Ray E. Weisenborn of Lancaster, Calif., and his daughters Carol Weisenborn of Ocean Park and Julia Scott of Ridgefield survive him. Also surviving are brothers Bill Weisenborn of La Center and Frank Weisenborn of Bend, Ore., six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and well as numerous nieces and nephews.
