SEAVIEW -The first annual Windermere Coat and Blanket Drive, organized by Windermere Crest Realty Co. in Seaview, has wrapped up and been declared a great success.
“Windermere agents and Peninsula residents were extremely generous with their donations and our collection box was overflowing on many occasions,” said Lyn Baker, office manager for Windermere Crest. “People kept coming in with armfuls of wonderful things.”
All donated items were taken to Pastor Colin Wellard at Pacific Bible Church in Ilwaco who combined them with coats and blankets brought in by members of his congregation.
“It’s a wonderful thing,” said Wellard, adding that people brought in some “really, really nice stuff.”
Approximately 30 boxes and “huge garbage bags” were taken to the Rescue Mission and Women’s Shelter in Astoria said Wellard. It was decided to take the items to Astoria because there is no rescue mission on the Peninsula and Wellard thought it best to give the clothes directly to those in need.
Both Windermere and Pacific Bible Church were happy to form this community partnership and look forward to possible further ventures in the future.
“We definitely plan on organizing a collection of coats and blankets again next year, starting in mid-October,” said Baker. “We are overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of Peninsula people.”
