Alex A. Puzauskas

LONG BEACH – Ocean Park resident Alex A. Puzauskas, 84, died Aug. 25, 2005, in Long Beach. He was born March 10, 1921, in Lithuania. When Russia began the occupation of Lithuania in 1944, he and his family fled the country and lived as refugees in the English Zone of postwar Germany. From there they moved to England where they lived until 1958.

In 1958 the family immigrated to America, settling in Chicago where Mr. Puzauskas worked as a journalist and front-page editor for a daily Lithuanian language newspaper.

Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Ocean Park in 1987. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Seaview and continued following and writing about world events.

Mr. Puzauskas is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bernice, at the family home; sons Andrew, Algis and Vaidas; granddaughters Andrea and Svaja; grandson Alex; and great-granddaughters Hadiya and Mayana.

Recitation of the Rosary followed by a funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaview on Aug. 30. Graveside services followed at Lone Fir Cemetery in Long Beach. Arrangements by Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
