Murder suspect judged not competent

SOUTH BEND – George Hicks was judged not competent to stand trial on a first-degree murder charge this month and is at Western State Hospital in Steilacoom where he will remain until he is judged competent, according to a spokeswoman for the Pacific County Prosecutor.

Hicks, 32, was arraigned on the charge in May. He was taken into custody on April 20 in Longview after he fled the scene of a fatal shooting April 16 in Seaview. Hicks is a suspect in the shooting. The victim was Kurt Allen Smith, 26, of Ocean Park.

SOUTH BEND – The trial date for Kyle Baxter, who was arrested and booked at Pacific County Jail June 21 in Seaview for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, has been continued until Nov. 9. Baxter has posted bail and is no longer in custody.
