St. Mary’s welcomes Father Peter Gillette after Father Victor Olvida moves to Lacey

SEAVIEW – The St. Mary’s Catholic Church community has said good-bye to Father Victor Olvida who will be moving to the Lacey area.There, he will be taking care of three new parishes. “We send him off with our good wishes and prayers,” his parishioners said.

Our area’s new parish priest is Father Peter Gillette.Father Gillette was born in Ghana on the West African Coast. He started training in 1952 for the priesthood in Ghana, and in 1999 was Pastor of Mary Queen of Peace before coming to the Seattle Archdiocese in November 2002. He was then assigned as assistant pastor to St. Joseph Parish in Vancouver from January 2003 through June 2004. July 2004 through June 2005 he became the Parochial Vicar at Enumclaw’s Sacred Heart; Buckley’s St. Aloysius; and, Wilkeson’s Our Lady of Lourdes parishes.
He likes to play and watch volleyball, ping pong and soccer. He enjoys reading when time allows. He doesn’t have a favorite author, but likes a variety of reading material. When asked about the food he likes, his response was “American.”
He is looking forward to being a part of our community and will be an asset and pleasure to have in our midst.
