Honoring ChinookSEAVIEW – St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and Ocean Park Lutheran Church will be presenting the second annual “Honoring the Chinook” ceremony from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Peninsula Church Center, 5000 “N” Place, Seaview. Featured will be a dinner and a service of worship, which will include a talking circle. Elders will have the opportunity to say something about themselves and the Chinook people. Long Beach RodeoLONG BEACH – The Peninsula Saddle Club presents their 60th annual Long Beach Rodeo on July 30 and July 31, sponsored by Peninsula Automotive. The festivities begin with the famous cowboy breakfast served from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. each morning in the clubhouse.

The Northwest Professional Rodeo starts each day at 1 p.m. It will feature top cowboys and cowgirls in the Northwest competing in bareback, saddle bronc, and bull riding, breakaway roping, calf roping, team roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing. The colorful Clarkette Drill Team from Vancouver will perform both days.

“Family Night” will start directly after the bull riding on Saturday. This is where the kids get to compete in mutton busting, calf tales, stick-horse races, hay race, hat race, bag race, and the famous hangman race. The grand finale will be the always-popular greased pig race. There will be pony rides for the kids, a free rock climbing wall, and clowns entertaining each day. Also, don’t forget to come and dunk your favorite elected city of Long Beach official at the SummerFest dunk tank.

You won’t want to miss the delicious beef and pork barbecue that will be served all day. Don’t miss the chance to test your skills on the mechanical bull located near the beer garden. Be sure to visit all the other vender booths, selling food, jewelry, cowboy hats, and metal art. There will also be souvenir T-shirts and sweatshirts for the 60th Anniversary on sale.

Right after Family Night you will want to stay around and enjoy a free dance with the Jackson Andrew’s Band. The group plays acoustic folk music. They will play from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Be sure and come back on Sunday morning for our renowned cowboy breakfast and watch the overflow cowboys and cowgirls run in slack. The excitement starts all over again with the Sunday show starting at 1 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Long Beach Pharmacy. You may also purchase tickets at the rodeo grounds, located on 6407 Sandridge Rd. Adults $10, Seniors $9, Children 6 to 12 $5, and children 5 and under are free.
