One of Pacific County’s prettiest towns well deserves the praise that has been heaped on it. Ilwaco has long played host to visitors from all over who come to enjoy prime fishing and wonderful hospitality.
The Port of Ilwaco is reborn with remarkable new buildings and life. Meanwhile, in 2004 the town completed a major redesign of key streets, with galleries, antique shops and other attractions now colonizing the downtown area.
The local high school, as well as Ocean Beach Hospital and one of the Peninsula’s two public libraries also are located in Ilwaco. At the end of Spruce Street is City Park with a playground, day-use picnic facilities, tennis court, basketball court and a grass ballfield.
A beautiful park at Black Lake includes many recreational facilities. Other attractions in town include the working port, center of Northwest salmon fishing.
A local group is nurturing the Peninsula’s creative energy with a new River City School of Arts, 642-8707, offering a wide range of interesting courses in an historic building.
