ILWACO – Ocean Park resident Lillian M. Sparklin, 69, died Dec. 14, 2004, in Ilwaco. The daughter of David and Mae (Rollins) Petrie, she was born June 30, 1935, in Sweethome, Ore. At an early age she moved to Naselle where her father worked in the woods and her mother operated a restaurant. She attended Naselle schools.
On June 29, 1967, she married Charles Sparklin. He was a career Navy man and their first home was in Alaska. Later they lived in Plainfield, Ill., where Mrs. Sparklin worked as a machine operator for Trinity Paper Company for 15 years. She also worked as a cook and waitress and obtained a degree in welding. Twenty-five years ago she returned to the local area to be near family.
Mrs. Sparklin enjoyed being a homemaker, gardening, and television, especially animated characters. A self-professed homebody, she stayed busy doing anything and everything she could for her family and others, and dearly loved her grandchildren. She attended Peninsula Assembly of God Church in Ocean Park.
She is survived by her mother Mae Bruton of Ocean Park; daughters Susan Johnson of Ocean Park and Patricia Trujillo of Oak Forest, Ill.; sons Howard C. Sparklin of Snake River, Idaho and Charles W. Sparklin of Mokena, Ill.; brother David Petrie of Everett; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003 and a son James in 1985.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 2l, at Peninsula Assembly of God in Ocean Park. A graveside service followed that afternoon at Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo. Arrangements by Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
