ILWACO – Southwest Washington teams had mixed success in football and volleyball state tournament action over the weekend.

Class B football powerhouse Cathlamet destroyed North Beach 62-12, scoring on their first seven possessions and making six of seven two-point conversions before taking out the starters late in the third period. Tacoma Baptist also knocked off Adna, and former Fishermen coach, Casey Johnson, convincingly 52-12.

Ilwaco’s class A foes split their state playoff games with Napavine, crushing Concrete 55-7 and Kalama cruising over Cascade Christian 46-15. Onalaska lost to LaConner 19-13 and Friday Harbor shut out Ocosta 28-0. Kalama will play Napavine at a site to be determined in the Centralia area next weekend. LaCenter will match up with Archbishop Murphy Nov. 20 in Everett at 2 p.m. Both teams are undefeated and haven’t had a close game all year at the 2A level.

All three of Ilwaco’s volleyball foes earned a trophy in Yakima. White Pass was eighth in the state, Kalama fourth, and Onalaska claimed third place hardware.

Naselle’s foes weren’t as lucky as South Bend and Raymond were both eliminated in two straight matches. Toutle Lake was fifth, the only SWW team to earn a trophy in state B action. Woodland lost in the 2A championship volleyball game and was the only SWW team to place in that tourney.
