LONG BEACH – Ila E. “Tiny” Teter, 94, a resident of Ocean Park the past 52 years, died Oct. 25, 2004, in Long Beach. The daughter of Earl and Florence Herrick, she was born Nov. 14, 1909, in Cherokee, Iowa. She grew up in Iowa and received her education there.

She moved west to Oregon where she settled in Milwaukie, Ore. There she worked as a truck driver and in retail sales at J.C. Penney and Meier & Frank. In 1952 she and her husband, Thomas Holmes, moved to Ocean Park where they owned and operated a Union 76 service station and the Ocean Park Cafe. Following her husband’s death in 1967, she sold the businesses and in 1969 married Arl Teter. He died in 1984.

In retirement years Mrs. Teter enjoyed her family and friends. She was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. She bred and raised poodles, enjoyed traveling, clamming, and her home was always open to anyone, no matter their need.

Survivors include her son Ronald Holmes of Ocean Park; brother Donald Herrick of Ocean Park; numerous grand- and great-grandchildren and other members of an extended family. She was preceded in death by her daughter Isabelle Hunt, sister Betty J. Wood and grandson Robert C. Hunt.

Graveside service was Saturday, Oct. 30, at Ocean Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
