ROSBURG – Washington Independent Telephone Scholarship Association (WITSA) has again awarded Amanda Dotson and Eric Hendrickson $2,000 in scholarships!
These outstanding students, both 2002 graduates of Naselle High School, are dependents of full-time employees of Wahkiakum West, a member of Washington Independent Telephone Association.
WITSA awards these annual scholarships to deserving students as a way to show appreciation of telephone industry employees in our state, and as an investment in the future of our communities.
Amanda has maintained a 4.0 GPA at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore., where she will be a junior majoring in Mass Communication, with minors in German and History. This year, she spent a semester in Vienna studying German, history, art, music, and politics, and looks forward to a semester in London studying British Mass media in her senior year. She has participated in the German Club and Masterworks Choral; she was the copy editor for the Linfield Review, tutored students, and held a part-time job. This summer Amanda will work as in intern for U.S. Rep. Brian Baird.
Eric’s focus is Earth, Space & Science, with an emphasis in geology. He will continue his education at the University of Washington, where he will be a junior. He has maintained a high GPA, qualifying for the Dean’s list the past three quarters.
While studying the necessary math and science courses required in his chosen field, Eric has also enrolled in a Finnish language class, reflecting his interest in our local heritage. He will work again this summer for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in the Spartina eradication program.
