Leo Francis Meacham

OCEAN PARK – Ocean Park resident Leo F. Meacham, 88, died May 22, 2004, at his home. Born Nov. 15, 1915, in Cherokee, Iowa he was the son of Edgar and Lucy (Ware) Meacham.
During his childhood he lived on farms near Cherokee and Peterson, Iowa. He attended and graduated from high school at Brooke Consolidated School near Cherokee.
In 1938 he met and married Lola Haye in Sutherland, Iowa. The couple continued to live in Iowa where Mr. Meacham farmed until 1961. They moved to The Dalles, Ore., in 1961 where he worked on The Dalles dam. He was a machinist and worked on other dams throughout Washington state and in Colorado. He also drove school bus while in The Dalles and went to work for the Oregon State Parks Department as a park attendant until his retirement in the late 1970s. After his wife died in 1985, he moved to Ocean Park to be near his brothers.
He was a member of both the Moose and Eagle’s Lodges while living in The Dalles. Fishing was his favorite pastime. He owned a boat with his brothers, and they enjoyed many salmon fishing trips together. Mr. Meacham liked people and enjoyed visiting with friends who stopped in at his home. He was a handy person to have around and had been a great help to his sister-in-law during the time his brother George was ill. Family was important to him, and he is remembered as a good father who was proud of his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his daughter Judy Scott of Bellevue; brother Ellis Meacham of Chinook, sister Alice Ellis of Beaverton, Ore.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Lola, daughter Janet Wilkinson and two brothers George Meacham and Allan Meacham.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Washington Lung Association (which includes emphysema) in care of Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea, P.O. Box 417, Long Beach, WA 98631. Private cremation has been held. No public service is scheduled.
