LACENTER – LaCenter pitcher Alyssa Monson fired a no-hit, no-run game and walked only one Ilwaco hitter as the Lady Wildcats won a 13-0 Trico League softball game there Tuesday.
“Monson is the best pitcher in the state,” Coach Rick Bishop praised. “We were competitive against them, but mental or physical errors at key times seemed to let us down.” Bishop said the first inning was a prime example as the Lady Wildcat catcher Mary Scanlon led off with a line-drive single, and then a series of walks and wild pitches set up a bases-loaded situation where an Ilwaco outfielder dropped a routine fly ball allowing 2 unearned runs to score.
Nicole Adams pitched a 6-hitter according to Bishop, and catcher Cody Jenkins also played well defensively for Ilwaco. Monica Smith was the only Lady Fishermen to reach base, doing so via a base on balls.
The game originally scheduled for at home was changed to LaCenter when Bishop discovered the field was unplayable.
“Some other group used the softball field and did not fill in and tarp the mound or home plate areas,” he explained. With the rain overnight the game had to be moved.
“Four starters were unable to make the trip, so we forfeited the second varsity game so the JV’s could play,” Bishop said.
