RIDGEFIELD – It’s hard to beat perfection, and Ilwaco was not able to solve the slants of Ridgefield’s Dani Nelson, as she pitched a perfect game win over the Lady Fishermen Monday.
Nelson’s battery mate Kelly Heald blasted a bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning that hit the center field fence on the fly.
“They executed 7 or 8 bunts and we made errors on 3 of them,” coach Rick Bishop lamented. “Otherwise we played really well.”
Bishop had praise for Nicole Adams-Davis pitching against the number-one-ranked Lady Spudders.
“She only allowed 3 hits against the top 2A team in the state. Nicole (Adams-Davis) walked 6 and Ridgefield turned each one of them into a score in the first and fifth innings,” said the coach.
The Lady Fishermen’s defense continues to be a strong point, only committing 3 errors against the hard-hitting Spuds.
“It was a positive accomplishment to push Ridgefield for the full seven innings,” Bishop concluded.
The second game was forfeited so that enough players were available to play a junior varsity contest.

Woodland blanks Lady Fishermen, 8-0ILWACO – Woodland’s fabulous freshman, Megan Peabody, pitched a 2-hitter and tripled home 3 runs in the first inning to basically single-handedly defeat the Lady Fishermen 8-0 in Trico League play Friday.
The scheduled second game of the double header was forfeited to the Lady Beavers so the junior varsity could play.
Nicole Adams-Davis and Jesse Landeros were the only two Ilwaco players to get base hits, but coach Rick Bishop said several others on the team hit the ball very hard, but right at Woodland defenders.
Adams-Davis pitched a 4-hitter of her own, but 10 walks and 2 hit batsmen led to 7 of the Lady Beaver’s 8 runs scored, according to Bishop. The Lady Fishermen did not commit an error in the 5-inning contest.
Ilwaco is now 2-14 on the season and 1-9 in league play.
