NHS track teams have good finish at Ocosta

WESTPORT – The Naselle track team competed in a five-team track meet held at Ocosta High School Thursday. The Naselle girls finished in fourth place, while the boys came in fifth.

Boys team scores: Willapa Valley 108, PeEll 97, Northwest Christian 60, Ocosta 57, Naselle 22.

Naselle boys places: Tony Mendoza – second in discus, 95-feet-9; second in shot, 39-feet; second in javelin, 133-feet-2-1/2; Carl Fredrickson – fifth in pole vault, 8-feet-6, fifth in 200, 26.6; Tony Ruch – sixth in 200, 27.0.

Girls team scores: Willapa Valley 131, Ocosta 60, NWC 53, Naselle 43, Pe Ell 38.

Naselle girls places: Erin Saari – second in pole vault, 7-feet, third in 800, 3:01.6; fourth in high jump, 4-feet-8; Kelsey Fletcher – second in 400, 1:12; Sandra Rodriguez – third in 300 hurdles, 1:00,14; Cheryl Steppe – fourth in discus, 65-feet-2; fourth in shot put, 25-feet-7; sixin th javelin, 68-feet-1; Jamie Bighill – third in pole vault, 6-feet; Kelli Revis – fifth in high jump, 4-feet-6; 4×100 relay – (Fletcher, Revis, Bighill, Rodriguez), third, 1:02.5; 4×400 relay (Fletcher, Saari, Rodriguez, Bighill), first 5:30.

Coach debbie Denny said, “It was a nice day for a meet. We took part missing a couple of people – the distant runners didn’t run. Katherine (Herrold) is recovering from a sore leg and Jenny Klinger had the flu.

Naselle hosts a home meet Thursday, then travels to Wahkiakum on Friday.
