Mary Margaret Dundore

PORTLAND – Mary Margaret Dundore, a summer resident of Seaview for 76 years, died on April 10, 2004, in Portland. The daughter of John Dundore and Genevieve Clancy Dundore, she was born March 14, 1928, in Portland.

She attended Holy Child Academy and graduated from the University of Oregon where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta and Mu Phi Epsilon. She attended the Julliard School of Music in New York and received her master’s degree at Syracuse University. She received her doctorate degree in music at the University of Washington. She was a member of the Archbishop’s Seminary Tea Committee. She was dean of women at the St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Ind., then became dean of women at the University of Portland for many years. She was a faculty member emeritus of the Community Music Center in Portland, sang with the Portland Opera and was a member of the Junior League and the Multnomah Athletic Club.

Dr. Dundore was the director of cultural programs at the University of Portland until her retirement. A member of the advisory committee on campus art, she was instrumental in acquiring “Christ the Teacher” large bronze grouping by Donovan Peterson, which is on the university campus near the Mago Hunt Center.

Surviving relatives include her sister Joan Dundore Sullivan, aunt Dorothy Dundore, and nephews Mike, Brian, Chris Sullivan and six great-nieces and nephews.
