ROSBURG – U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, D-Wash., is sponsoring a major gathering of investors and stakeholders connected with all county rivers and streams at the Rosburg School from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19. Federal and state agency representatives will hear from local landowners, businesses, timber companies, nonprofit groups and local government officials as they present the current flooding, erosion, fishing, and agriculture realities in Wahkiakum County.
The Rivers Summit will bring together more than 25 organizations and agencies to present information on critical erosion issues on Puget Island and flooding patterns on Grays River, as well as dredging permit problems for the Elochoman Marina in Cathlamet and in Skamokawa Creek. Grays Bay, well known for its shallow entry, is also being presented as a major concern for the river’s chum salmon runs and boat access.
The summit is open to the public. For more information, call County Commissioner Mark Linquist at (360) 795-8048. To register for the day, call Karen Bertroch at the Wahkiakum County Community Foundation at (360) 795-8805.
