LONG BEACH – Long Beach resident Dale Otto Killam, 45, died unexpectedly of natural causes at his home on Aug. 13 2003. Born on Dec. 11, 1957 in Vancouver, he was the son of Lloyd Parsons and Ruth (Weissinger) Killam.

Mr. Killam grew up in the St. Johns area of north Portland and attended Roosevelt High School. He continued living in the area after high school and raised his children there. He worked for Lynden Farms for 10 years before beginning his fishing career in Alaska in 1990. While in Alaska he worked on the Arctic Storm for 11 years and made numerous friends. In 2001 he and his wife Cheryl moved to Long Beach. He was employed with Sunrise Seafoods until his death.

Well-liked and respected by his co-workers, he was a dependable and hard worker who was a good provider for his family. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Cheryl Greene of Long Beach; mother Ruth Killam of Portland; daughters Tara Killam, Angela Miller and Lii Porotesano of Portland; sons Matthew Greene of Ocean Park and Nicholas Greene Killam of Portland; daughters-in-law Vicky Johnson of Ocean Park and Angela Killam of Portland; sisters Pam Woodruff of Estacada, Ore., and Tammy Killam of Portland; brothers Dick Hewitt of Washougal, Terry Parsons of Warrenton, Ore., Gary Killam and Trey Killam of Portland; five grandchildren, four nephews and two nieces.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. A reception will follow the service at the family home in Long Beach.
