NASELLE – The Naselle Comets 2003 football team will begin practice Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 4 p.m. on Rueben Penttila Field at Naselle High School.

Head coach Matt Scrabeck announced that an important parents meeting will be held Tuesday evening, Aug. 19 at the high school. Parents of team members are urged to attend that meeting and make sure to have all the necessary paperwork for each athlete.

Each athlete must have the following paperwork before he can practice: current physical, medical release form and WIAA consent form to participate. All of these forms are available at the high school office.

Scrabeck will be assisted by Jeff Eaton who will concentrate on the defense, and Chris Clark who will work with the offensive line and special teams. Lonnie Eaton and a coach still to be named will work with the middle school/junior high team. That team will begin its practice sessions later.

Scrabeck said, “We will have a relatively inexperienced team so we have lots to accomplish before our season gets under way. Our first game will be a home game against Oakville on either Friday or Saturday, Sept. 5 or Sept. 6, depending upon the teams being able to get in the required number of practices before the first game.

“I am hoping for a turnout approaching 30 players. Most of our players will be young as it looks like there will only be a couple of seniors turning out. The biggest group of our players will be juniors and sophomores, most of them with experience from a year ago.”
