Whealdon 9th at WJGA Championship

BELLEVUE – Ten-year-old Patrick Whealdon of Chinook competed against the top 36 9- to 11-year-old golfers in the state of Washington last week and finished in ninth place.

Patrick shot a two-day total of 81 which made the cut (84). The top 12 juniors then advanced to Overlake Country Club for the final 18 holes on Friday.

At Overlake, Patrick shot an 89, which placed him at ninth. Ryan Kukala of Ocean Park who also competed in Bellevue shot 47-47 the first two days but did not make the cut. Both boys have one more year to compete in this age group.

By finishing third at the Peter Jacobson Junior Challenge in June, Patrick qualified for the Pacific Northwest Junior Championship at Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club on Aug. 18 and 19.
