Lowrane D. Cook

SPOKANE – Lowrane D. (Buck) Cook, 82, a resident of Ocean Park since 1980, died April 4, 2003 in Spokane. Born Feb. 19, 1921 in Neilson, Mont., she was the daughter of Fredrick and Sadie (Grier) Buck. She grew up in Kelso and attended Kelso High School.
She married Jack Cook on July 19, 1941 in Kelso. He served with the Army Airborne during World War II and upon his return the couple settled in Tacoma and later in Columbia Falls, Mont. Following retirement they settled in Ocean Park in 1980. Mr. Cook died in 1996.
Mrs. Cook was an avid collector of antiques. She and Mr. Cook traveled throughout the western states collecting and attending estate sales. Her special interest was bottles and she sought them out in old dumps, outhouses and other interesting places. She displayed her finds at Red’s in Ilwaco. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, painting, crocheting, knitting and slot machines. She and her husband snowbirded at Quartzite, Ariz.
She is survived by daughter Sandra West of Spokane; sons Fredrick of Oakdale, Calif., John of Round Mountain, Calif., and Donald of Reno, Nev.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her cousin and good friend Margie Bates of Ocean Park and numerous other family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Hill.
A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m. at Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach. A reception follows at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of Penttila’s Chapel, PO Box 417, Long Beach, WA 98631.
