NASELLE – The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Feb. 18, with mostly routine matters to consider.

In personnel action, the board approved letters of resignation from teachers Kevin Heimbigner and Lady Hanigan. They also hired Bert Haven as assistant softball coach for the high school.

The board recognized the two foreign exchange students and they each spoke about themselves.

In curriculum matters, the board :Changed the Youth Camp School calendar to reflect the Best Practices Training on March 13 & 14 instead of March 6 & 7; Approved the traveling of basketball teams to state B if either or both of the teams should qualify; Approved senior sneak to Seattle; and

Approved a public school student to attend a speech class at NYCS.

The estimated ending cash balance $147,972 based on an enrollment NYCS of 135 FTE students and a public school enrollment of 315.78 FTE students.

In a report on the food service program, it was reported that the number of lunches is going up, but so is the deficit. Attempts to increase the revenue are ongoing. The program will continue to be monitored.

Superintendent Gerald Schmidtke’s report: The technology plan has been approved through June 2004; The district has purchased projectors for teacher classrooms and a plotter from a Rural Education Grant; A middle school classroom is going to be the middle school computer lab.

Computers for the lab are being purchased with a grant from the Templin Foundation and Mr. Nelson’s class will be building tables; The district will have a consolidated review on Feb. 26, which will look into the district’s federal programs.

The board announced that they will have a parliamentary procedure workshop on March 15 and a board relations workshop on March 27.
