- Peninsula barrel racers won top awards for their performances in last year's NBHA races. The winners, pictured with saddles they were awarded include (L to R): Cheri Bolden, Diane Carter, Jamie Henington and Marilyn Carnahan.
LONGVIEW – The National Barrel Horse Association Washington (NBHA) District No. 8 held its year-end award ceremony on Jan. 5 in Longview, where four Peninsula barrel racers took home top awards.
The winners included three racers from Long Beach, including Cheri Bolden, Diane Carter and Jamie Henington, as well as Marilyn Carnahan of Nahcotta.
“This is the first time that all four championships were won by local barrel racers,” said Carter. “It’s pretty remarkable, because the area we compete in includes five counties in the state.”
The awards were based on 23 barrel racing competitions last year, where each racer accumulated points along the way. The Jan. 5 ceremony recognized those with the highest scores.
Bolden, Carter, Henington and Carnahan each took home a custom-engraved $1,200 saddle as a result of their year-long performances in the NBHA races last year.
