Oct. 4, 1957 – “The Crew of the Mermaid,” Marg Nelson’s second book for girls, made its appearance in Seattle a few days ago. The Bellevue author, whose home is on Lake Sammamish, already has sent a third manuscript to her New York agent and is experimenting with ideas for a fourth. ‘I always have to keep the cradle full,’ she observed. Mrs. Nelson began writing after her two sons and two daughters were quite grown. She dedicated “The Crew of the Mermaid” to her five grandsons. Her stories invariably have a background of fishing and fishing boats, for that is a field with which she is extremely familiar. Mrs. Nelson (Mrs. Walter Nelson) is a former Chinook woman having many friends in these parts who will be glad to hear of her good fortune in writing.”

Nov. 8, 1957 – “Sputnik Sighted Here. George Kitzmiller and Irene Traynor are two local people who arose early enough to sight Sputnik going over here some time between 5:30 and 6 a.m., traveling from southeast to northwest, taking about 30 seconds to cover the course, stated Kitzmiller.”
