VANCOUVER – Julie Kent of Vancouver (formerly Naselle) and David Shaw of Lake Heights, Australia (formerly England) were married in a civil ceremony on May 23, 2002 in Keiraville, Australia in a garden wedding at the home of friends, Owen and Susie Curtis.

Elizabeth Thomson, who introduced the couple and former exchange student in Naselle, was their witness. A reception followed with a traditional Australian wedding cake, similar to an iced fruitcake, made by friend Anne Thomson.

After honeymooning in Huskinson, Australia, Julie returned home to Vancouver and David waited in Australia for his permanent visa. He arrived in the United States on Sept. 1.

Julie is the daughter of Duane and Judy Kent of Naselle. David’s parents, Ronald and Elsie Shaw, are deceased.

On Oct. 12, a blessing of the civil ceremony was held in Vancouver, at the Hostess House with Pastor Clifford Weimer officiating. Black and gold were the couple’s chosen colors.

Elizabeth Thomson of Thirroul, Australia was matron of honor. Rachel Reiss from Colts Neck, N.J., Dayna Ferrero from Boise, Idaho, friends of the bride and Wendy Shaw from Edwardsville, Ill., sister of the groom, were bridesmaids. Craig Kent from East Wenatchee, brother of the bride, stood as best man. Bin ‘Zhou from Edwardsville, Ill., brother-in-law of the groom and Peter Ferrero IV from Boise, Idaho, friend of the bride, were groomsmen. Austin Kent, nephew of the bride, and Kassidy Zhou, nephew of the groom, were candle lighters. Miranda Kent, niece of the bride, was the flower girl and Noah Kent, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer. Her father, Duane Kent, gave Julie away.

A reception followed at the Hostess House. The couple makes their home in Vancouver.
