Alice Marie Christianson

SEAVIEW – Seaview resident Alice Marie Christianson, 91, died Dec. 7, 2002 in Long Beach.

Born Jan. 13, 1911 in Karis, Finland she was the daughter of Franz and Aina (Stonstrom) Osterlund. She grew up in Astoria where her father worked as a bridge carpenter for the railroad and later became a bridge tender.

Mrs. Christianson obtained her nurses education at St. Mary’s Hospital in Astoria and became a registered nurse. She worked at Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco for many years and was the first nurse at the first local hospital which was located just north of where she lived the past 40 years in Seaview.

In January of 1932 she married Harold Christianson and they made their home in Seaview. Mrs. Christianson lived in Seaview for nearly 70 years but had also lived and worked in the Longview/Kelso area.

When she was younger she enjoyed fishing and had often talked about cutting wood on the beach. She was a very accomplished artist and produced many beautiful pastels.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 1976. Survivors include her niece Joyce Pawson of Seaview; nephews Blair Osterlund of Sisters, Ore., Kent Osterlund of Milwaukie, Ore., James Osterlund of East Patchogue, N.Y., and Dennis Osterlund of Portland, Ore.

At her request no public service will be held. Private inurnment will take place at Ilwaco Cemetery in llwaco next to Mr. Christianson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ocean Beach Hospital Auxiliary, P.O. Box H, llwaco, WA 98624. Arrangements by Penttila’s Chapel by the Sea, Long Beach.
