AWANA Games OCEAN PARK – AWANA is a well known, international Bible-centered ministry providing young people with a fun, faith-based and character building program. SaturdayChinook Summer Fest BAY CENTER – The Chinook Indian Tribe will be hosting the Indian Summer Fest on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Bay Center Park, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Family and friends are welcome. Rediscover the traditions of the ancient Chinook culture, eat good food, visit with old friends, enjoy a canoe ride, play games, visit the vending tables, enter a raffle and win a lucky prize. Harvest Dinner RAYMOND – Pacific County Crisis Support Network plans a Harvest Dinner on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Raymond High School Commons, with a “Scarecrow Auction” following dinner. Various organization have picked up the challenge from the Pacific County Bar Association to enter the contest for the scariest scarecrow. Scarecrows will be judged by the Willapa Heritage Foundation and then be auctioned with other fall items after the dinner. Two prizes will be awarded for the scariest scarecrow – one for adult and one for children. All groups and individuals are welcome to enter the contest and donate their entry to the auction. Dinner will be ham with honey apple glaze, creamy scalloped red potatoes, calico corn, gingered baked squash with apples, autumn medley salad, pumpkin rolls (plain rolls will also be available) and apple crunch for dessert. Fire district open house OCEAN PARK – Pacific County Fire District No. 1 at 26109 Ridge Avenue will host an open house on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week. The theme of Fire Prevention Week is “Team Up for Fire Safety.” Pacific County’s open house will incorporate activities and educational information for children and adults that supports that theme, including fire truck rides, fire prevention information, first-aid/CPR information, surf recovery operations, blood pressure checks, car fire demonstration, JAWS demonstration, fire extinguisher demonstration and much, much more. Hotdogs, chips, and drinks will be provided by Pacific County Fire District No. 1. Come out and enjoy this fun and educational event! Hilltop Garden LONG BEACH – Hilltop Garden is getting a greenhouse, but needs your help! There will be work parties the next two Saturdays to take down and reassemble the donated greenhouse. On Saturday, Oct. 5, at 9 a.m., meet at Sea Resources at the Chinook Fish Hatchery and help dismantle the 30+ feet of greenhouse. The parts will be moved to Hilltop Gardens. On Saturday, Oct. 12, the greenhouse will be reassembled at Hilltop Gardens. So, bring cordless drills with 1/4 inch sockets, bring trucks and trailers for hauling parts, and bring your smiles and delight that Hilltop Garden is getting a greenhouse! TuesdayArt for kids ILWACO – The River City School is offering an Art for Kids class on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. beginning Oct. 1 through Nov. 5. Taught by Susan Glick, a certified art instructor teaching in the public schools, the course has been designed to teach the basic principles of drawing in a way that is very appealing to children. Many of the lessons are guided, giving the student immediate professional results. Each lesson is a complete work of art. Tuition is $30 plus supplies for the six-week course. Wahkiakum meetings WAHKIAKUM COUNTY – Wahkiakum County is putting together a new comprehensive plan to guide future growth. Legion awards banquet ILWACO – The American Legion’s Don R. Grable Post No. 48 is sponsoring the 15th annual Derald D. Seven people who protect our safety on the Long Beach Peninsula will be honored at ceremonies after dinner. The main speaker will be the American Legion State Commander Michael Montaney. The docket will be held in the North District courtroom. Many, if not all of the cases, will be Pacific County cases on appeal. Harvest festival luncheon and bazaar SEAVIEW – A harvest festival luncheon and bazaar will be held Oct. 25 and 26 at the Peninsula Church Center at 5000 N. Place in Seaview. There will be a clam chowder, salad, pie, and beverage luncheon served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. both day; craft tables; baked goods and candy tables; music; and fun for all. Bazaar hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. This event is sponsored by the Presbyterian Woman’s Association Youth Group, Sunday School Lutheran Ladies, and Campfire Girls.
